Hayao Miyazaki's sweeping forest epic comes to the big screen in its English dub, following Ashitaka as he's drawn into the brutal conflict between the industrious inhabitants of Iron Town and the ancient spirits protecting their dying woods. The animation still holds up as some of the most gorgeously rendered work to come out of Studio Ghibli, full of lush greenery, feral wolf-gods, and a wandering forest spirit whose presence anchors the whole story in something quietly mythic.
Catching it at The Beverly Theater feels fitting given the venue's intimate scale and warm acoustics, letting the film's lush score and layered sound design fill the room without the distraction of a sprawling multiplex. It's a good pick for anyone who grew up on the film and wants to revisit it somewhere cozier, or for newcomers curious about why this particular Ghibli title still gets talked about decades after its original release.
