Tales of the Sun and Moon gathers a group of Story Keepers who carry centuries-old legends about the sky above us. Every culture has looked up at that same sun and moon and spun its own tale about them, and this show weaves together celestial myths from China, Korea, Hawai'i, and other traditions into a single performance. Expect a blend of spoken word, movement, and live music as the stories unfold, each one offering a different lens on the heavens we all share.
The setting inside the Troesh Studio Theater suits this kind of intimate storytelling well. With natural light pouring through large windows and a floating dance floor built for movement-based performance, the space allows the Story Keepers room to shift between quiet narration and more physical, dance-driven sequences. Lighting can be adjusted to match the mood of each legend, so the room itself seems to transform as the stories move from one culture to the next.
This being a world-premiere production, audiences get to see these interwoven myths staged for the first time, making for a show built on fresh choreography and new interpretations of old tales rather than something already familiar from other venues.
