The Big Apple Coaster wraps around and through the New York-New York resort, weaving between the scaled-down Chrysler Building and Empire State Building on the south Strip. It opened in 1997 as the first roller coaster in the world to feature a 180-degree heartline twist and dive, a maneuver that rolls the train through a barrel while it drops so that you fall around a fixed point rather than straight down.
It climbs to 203 feet, drops 144, and tops out at 67 mph, all in under three minutes. It is an older ride and it rides like one, which is part of the character, and the second half traces the resort's skyline replicas at rooftop level.
Riders must be 54 inches tall without shoes. A single ride and an all-day re-ride pass both cost $25, so it is worth deciding up front whether you are going once or several times.
