The Punk Rock Museum opened on Western Avenue in 2023, put together by Fat Mike of NOFX with a long list of collaborators, and it holds the largest collection of punk artifacts anywhere: flyers, instruments, stage clothes, hand-written lyrics, tour ephemera and whole cases given over to the Ramones, Bad Religion, the Dead Kennedys and dozens more.
What makes it worth the ticket is the guiding. Tours are led by working musicians — a rotating monthly roster of people from the bands on the walls — who take you round telling the stories from the inside. General admission is self-guided and cheaper; the guided tour is the thing.
There is also a bar, a jam room where you can pick up the instruments and play them, a tattoo studio and a wedding chapel, none of which is a joke.
