Piano Man plants Broadway star Kyle Martin behind the keys for a night dedicated to two of the most recognizable songbooks in pop music history. He works through the Billy Joel and Elton John catalogs, hitting the big ones like "Uptown Girl," "My Life," "Tiny Dancer," and "Rocketman," alongside 15 more tracks that fill out the set. The V Theater setting gives the whole thing a showroom feel, intimate enough that the piano runs and vocal riffs land with some punch.
What sets this apart from a straightforward cover show is the Broadway pedigree behind it. Martin brings a theater performer's sense of phrasing and stagecraft to songs that were built for stadiums, so there's a bit of a different energy to hearing "Rocketman" delivered with that kind of vocal control. If you grew up on either artist's records, or just like a good singalong to songs everybody already knows the words to, this fits that mold.
