Molchat Doma is a post-punk trio from Minsk, Belarus, that has become one of the most compelling acts in the modern darkwave and synth-punk revival. Formed in 2017, the band—consisting of Egor Shkutko, Roman Komogortsev, and Pavel Kozlov—draws heavily on the moody, atmospheric sounds of early '80s Soviet-era post-punk and Western coldwave, blending icy synthesizers, driving basslines, and Shkutko's deep, resonant vocals sung in Russian.
The group's breakout came with their 2018 album "Etazhi," which unexpectedly found a massive second life on platforms like TikTok, introducing their haunting, danceable sound to a global audience far beyond Eastern Europe. Their aesthetic—all grainy brutalist architecture, Soviet nostalgia, and monochrome visuals—perfectly complements their music, creating an immersive experience that feels both retro and startlingly current.
What sets Molchat Doma apart is their ability to make melancholy irresistibly danceable, channeling influences from bands like Joy Division and Kino while carving out something distinctly their own. Despite language barriers for many listeners, their music has resonated deeply worldwide, turning them into unlikely festival headliners and one of the defining acts of the post-punk revival movement.
