Now in its 14th year, Las Vegas Academy of the Arts brings its annual Smith Center concert to Reynolds Hall with "Origins," a program built around the idea of musical roots and where they lead. The evening draws together pieces from different cultures and traditions, giving LVA's students a chance to share the stage with some genuinely accomplished guest artists.

Among the highlights is euphonium soloist Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Buckley of the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," performing Dennis Llinás' "Sueños de Calle Ocho" with the composer present in the audience. Dr. Nathan Southwick takes on Ravel's "Tzigane," a piece known for its shifting moods and technical demands, while baritone André Chiang performs "Libera Me" from the Fauré Requiem, a work that carries a quiet, solemn weight. Under Reynolds Hall's balconies and full orchestra pit, the program moves between folk-inspired melodies and formal concert works, tracing how musical ideas travel and transform across borders and generations.
