The Funk Jam
Sand Dollar Lounge

Late night at the Sand Dollar Lounge means the band stops following a setlist and starts following the groove wherever it wants to go. The Funk Jam gathers some of Las Vegas' sharpest players for a night of all-improvised funk—bass lines locked in, horns punching through, guitar riding the upstroke, and drums holding it all to the one. Nobody on stage knows exactly where a song is headed until it gets there, which is half the fun of watching musicians this good work without a net.

The Sand Dollar itself has been hosting nights like this since the 70s, when blues legends and the occasional Rolling Stone would wander through its doors. That same loose, no-frills, music-first energy carries into this jam session. It's a small room built for sweat and volume, the kind of place where the crowd ends up as much a part of the show as the band, dancing because the rhythm section leaves no other option.

No cover, 21 and up, and it runs deep into the night—so there's no reason not to wander in, grab a drink, and see where the groove takes everyone.
